Vancouver's 2-0 win over RSL last Friday night relieved pressure on Carl Robinson and gave the crew an interesting lineup to dissect in the headline segment of Ep. 150. How will they hold up at counter-oriented Minnesota this Saturday?

Ed Pham and Tenzin Choephel pick lineups and results for a well-rested Portland team facing a road match up with the Earthquakes this week. Can Gio buck Timbers' historical struggles in San Jose and make it nine points from their last nine?

It's not an easy test with the Columbus Crew visiting town.

Seattle Times writer Geoff Baker calls in to discuss his new book. 100 Things Sounders Fans Should Know & Do Before They Die is an extensive review of Sounders history and culture from the 1970's to the present. An impressive diversity of topics are featured, ranging from stories told by NASL-era legends to candid and fair analysis of the club's highs and lows in MLS. Even the most attentive members of the fan base will find fascinating moments from the club's past unknown to them prior. The work presents the most honest and refreshing assessment of Seattle's first decade in MLS available in print. Portland's 3-0 win over league leaders NYCFC headlines our Cascadia coverage this week as the crew analyzes how the Timbers pulled off the big victory. Interviews with former Timber Rodney Wallace and centerback Liam Ridgewell from the locker room follow.

Ari Liljenwall of MLSsoccer.com and John Marshall of MLSGB give their takes on Svensson's rocket, a couple of questionable subs, and Alex Roldan's solid performance. The group takes picks for Sunday's road match at LAFC after a quick postgame exclusive with the Seattle University product.

Like the episode title says, last week featured some good results and some... well, terrible results. The crew tries to make sense of 9-man Vancouver's 6-0 thrashing at Sporting KC and questions if they'll be able to recover mentally in time for Friday's home test against Real Salt Lake.

Whitecaps coverage this week focuses assessing individual performances in the loss at Salt Lake. Despite the setback, there's optimism about Friday's big home match with LAFC. The Whitecaps have the chance to make things right on both sides of the ball in their first outing against the new expansion side, will they get it done?

Ari Liljenwall of MLSsoccer.com updates us on the injury situation in Seattle and projects a lineup for Sounders' match at Sporting KC on Sunday. Ed Pham and Tenzin Choephel dissect Portland's demoralizing 3-2 loss in Orlando, with frustration about officiating, substitutions and missed chances all coming to the surface. We try to set the disappointment aside quickly just as the Timbers will have to on account of Saturday's home opener against Minnesota United -- what does Portland look like at home under Giovanni Savarese, and can he pick up his first MLS victory as manager?

Mar 28, 2018

Well, that was technically an unbeaten weekend for our Cascadian sides -- it just didn't feel like it!

Ed Pham and Tenzin Choephel rate Portland's performance as they took a first-ever point under new boss Gio Savarese with a 1-1 draw in Dallas. Between a fresh formation, Blanco's sweet finish and a silly red card, there's plenty to go over before taking a look at Timbers' chances in their road contest with the Chicago Fire on Saturday.

Andrew and Steven describe a hellish drive to Vancouver for Whitecaps' 0-0 draw with LA Galaxy before giving their take on why the hosts couldn't find a winner. Michael McColl of AFTN calls in to do the same and assesses Carl Robinson's response as well. Will bunker-ball get it done in Columbus this weekend? We round out our Whitecaps coverage with predictions for their tough task in Ohio.

Ari Liljenwall of MLSsoccer.com throws down a probable lineup for Seattle's home match with Montreal this weekend. It's a difficult test for Sounders without Dempsey and likely Lodeiro as well, can they cope against Piatti and the Impact?

The first weekend of MLS action is in the books, and we're glad to have some meaningful soccer to talk about even if the results didn't all go our way.

Sounders stumbled at home against LAFC as they prepare for Chivas in the CCL Quarterfinals, while Portland dropped a 2-1 decision to LA's other club in Gio Savarese's first outing as head coach. Tenzin Choephel shares his experiences from the Stubhub Center in our Timbers segment, as well as some exclusive audio from Marco Farfan. Their next test is an away fixture with the New York Red Bulls, another side likely to see their league form affected by Champions League participation. Will Savarese and the new-look Timbers pick up their first win of a new era in Harrison?

Ari Liljenwall throws cold water on the idea that Seattle should be concerned after their opening day stinker against the league's newest side before our Sounders discussion turns to the upcoming series with Chivas. What do Sounders need to accomplish before taking a week off in preparation for the return leg?

Michael McColl of AFTN.ca joins to talk about the best result of the weekend, a 2-1 win for the Whitecaps over Canadian rivals Montreal Impact. We take stock of Vancouver's additions and Michael gives a bold prediction on new striker Kei Kamara.

Jan 31, 2018

Radio Cascadia is a weekly podcast covering soccer in the Pacific Northwest with a focus on MLS clubs Portland Timbers, Seattle Sounders and Vancouver Whitecaps. The show is an authoritative steward of the Cascadian perspective, representing the most passionate, unified and unique fan bases in the country. Their passion is well justified, not only by the clubs' nearly fifty years of shared history but also thanks to rampant success in the MLS era. Since 2011 (the first year all three clubs had made the switch over to the top flight from the USL), Cascadian MLS sides have won a combined total of five major trophies. Additional honors in that time frame include two CONCACAF Champions League semifinal appearances, three consecutive MLS Cup berths, and six consecutive Western Conference Championship appearances.

The latter two statistics above are active streaks, and clubs in Cascadia have just over a month of preseason left to prepare for their chance to continue these streaks on the stage of the 2018 MLS campaign.

This week on Ep. 140 of RC, host Jackson Felts of Seattle's Sports Radio 950 KJR is joined by Sounders 2 announcer Andrew Harvey, MLSsoccer.com's Ari Liljenwall and RC founder Steven Agen as they dissect the busiest week of 2018 so far. Five new players have joined Cascadian rosters since the last release, and there's even a first preseason match to review!

Michael McColl of AFTN.ca calls in to give his take on the leadership situation in the Whitecaps' locker room, and the extent to which Kei Kamara can fill the void. We spotlight Vancouver's other new striker as well; Venezuelan Anthony Blondell looks poised for a breakout season. Group analysis of Whitecaps boss Carl Robinson's ambitions for the season closes out the segment.

Matt Hoffman of Stumptown Footy reveals his favorite Timbers kit design as they released their new away strip for 2018 this week. The group pays due respect to the sweet gold accents on the new shirt, but most of the segment is devoted to analysis of the four new signings by the club in the span of only a few days.

Sounders have finally made a splash with their brand new chunk of discretionary Targeted Allocation Money, bringing in versatile Norwegian midfielder Magnus Eikrom on a free transfer. The news broke just in time for the group to develop opinions on where he'll fit in Seattle's attacking scheme in 2018. Elsewhere in the segment, Andrew Harvey gives his scouting report on new Homegrown Player Handwalla Bwana, who recorded a goal and an assist in Sounders' preseason victory over Club Tijuana's U-20 side on Sunday.

Jan 17, 2018

Radio Cascadia is back for 2018, starting off with a massive hour-and-a-half long show! The gang has much to catch up on in every corner of the region, from transfer sagas to new head coaches.

Michael McColl of AFTN.ca drops by to discuss all things Whitecaps. We explore their difficult travel schedule, recent signings and the reduction in the number of Cascadia matches they'll play this year. Some air time is given to analysis of the Canadian NT's decision to shake up their coaching staff as well. Michael even gives us a pick for Vancouver in the upcoming SuperDraft as we hit on every major story surrounding the club.

Things are quieter in Seattle this offseason, at least so far. Niko Moreno, one of the preeminent transfer rumor experts in all the land, joins to update us on Sounders target Ismael Diaz as well as the imminent arrival of Andy Polo in Portland. Ari Liljenwall of MLSsoccer.com plays down Seattle's draft prospects towards the end of our Sounders coverage for the week.

Matt Hoffman of Stumptown Footy shares his first impressions of new Timbers boss Giovanni Savarese, as well as signings Polo (mentioned above) and defender Julio Cascante. T2 signed a long-time USL Timber as manager for 2018, and Hoffman shares his take on this move as well. Lastly, the group ponders what the arrival of Columbus Crew star Justin Meram would mean in Portland.
