In our special second release of the week, Tenzin Choephel and Ed Pham join Steven Agen in previewing Timbers' side of this weekend's Portland-Seattle derby.

We begin by analyzing Portland's 2-1 win over the Colorado Rapids before jumping into Timbers lineups, tactics, top story lines and predictions in the 85th competitive edition of the I5 rivalry.

Find our Sounders-sided preview of this match in the August 26th edition of Radio Cascadia Live. That makes two full episodes previewing the region's biggest match, the way only Radio Cascadia can.

Aug 22, 2017

It wasn't just an unbeaten weekend in Cascadia, it was a perfect one. All three of our clubs took maximum points in important home fixtures, currently leaving each in a playoff berth.

Ordinarily, it'd be a good bet that such success would be the focus of this edition of Radio Cascadia. However with two derbies this week and midweek matches for everyone, we keep Ep. 122 focused on the future. This 45 minute installment primarily features previews of the Vancouver-Seattle derby on Wednesday as well as Portland's home tie with Colorado. The special set up allows us the flexibility to release again later in the week with more accurate previews of Vancouver's trip to Orlando and, of course, the Seattle-Portland derby on Sunday than we'd be able to provide before Wednesday's slate of matches.

We discuss the developing partnership between Fredy Montero and Yordy Reyna with AFTN's Michael McColl, also taking a look at how Carl Robinson will set up tactically against Sounders.

Will a day less rest than Whitecaps doom Seattle's trip north? Brian Schmetzer's lineup conundrum in this quick three match stretch is the focus of our Sounders side of Wednesday's derby.

A 2-2 draw in Commerce City left Portland with a bad taste in their mouths after their last match with the Rapids. Will Caleb Porter be able to devote enough resources to their midweek home match against them without sacrificing Seattle away?

This may well turn out to be a defining week for the 2017 season, particularly in Cascadia. Get ready for the first half of it with RC Ep. 122!

Two losses for our clubs and some bad injury developments from last weekend can't put a damper on our 2026 World Cup host city news, which headlines Ep. 121.

Michael McColl of AFTN talks with Steven about Vancouver's letdown at New England and how the Whitecaps will cope without Matias Laba. Their home match against high-flying Houston, winless all-time at BC Place, is an interesting proposition. Will the Whitecaps get their big homestand off to the right start?

Matt Hoffman joins the group to break down where the Timbers went wrong after 50 solid minutes in Toronto. Next up is a nationally-televised Friday night match against NY Red Bulls -- Providence Park will be rocking, but Caleb Porter's men will have to get the job done without Jake Gleeson, Liam Ridgewell, and Fanendo Adi. Can Diego Valeri, freshly apart of the elite 50/50 club, put the team on his back and carry the Timbers towards the top of the West?

Seattle broke their club record for most consecutive minutes without conceding a goal (400 minutes and counting), and our Sounders segment focuses on their recent positive run as a whole. The latest in a string of positive results has placed the Sounders in a tie for the Western Conference lead -- what are the chances they stay there?

Ep. 121 ends with a look at Forbes' analysis of estimated MLS club values. Hint: We have two in the top six.

Another unbeaten weekend in Cascadia leaves two of our clubs firmly in playoff positions and the third just on the edge looking in. Prost Portland editor Matt Hoffman discusses the reasons why Timbers aren't getting the national respect they deserve yet. That's followed by a preview of their match in Toronto, where a result would certainly send a message to anyone sleeping on Portland.

It's tough to tell whether it's two point dropped or a point gained as Carl Robinson continues to tinker with his ideal front four. Michael McColl of AFTN joins and give his takes on current playoff hopes, consistency, and the coming road match against New England. Who'll make the starting lineup for the Whitecaps, and will they do enough to keep pace with the Earthquakes for the last playoff spot in the West?

The group closes out Ep. 120 by analyzing Sounders' 7-match unbeaten run. Were they firing on all cylinders in Minnesota? Derlis Gonzalez isn't coming to Seattle, but that doesn't mean we don't have interesting questions to ponder as the transfer window closes. Where does Victor Rodriguez fit into this team, given Will Bruin's form? How about Lamar Neagle, for that matter?

It's another packed episode of Radio Cascadia -- tune in to hear takes on the biggest stories in the region from the likes of Michael McColl, Matt Hoffman, Ari Liljenwall, and Andrew Harvey.

Speaking of Ari and Andrew, they joined Steven Agen in writing Resurgence: How Sounders FC Roared Back to Win MLS Cup, presale available now here. Former Seattle mayor Greg Nickels, ESPNFC.com & Prost Amerika writer Matt Pentz and Seattle sports journalism legend Art Thiel all feature as well in Prost Publishing's effort to commemorate Sounders' 2016 title-winning season.

Aug 2, 2017

Four points from two matches in Texas leaves us with plenty to celebrate as we speak with Michael McColl of AFTN and Prost Portland editor Matt Hoffman about their cliubs' successes down south.

Whitecaps' 4-0 result in Frisco draws considerable attention and we rate it among their most memorable matches in MLS so far. Our preview of their match in Colorado focuses on the question of consistency, as another performance like the one against Dallas will surely earn points against the struggling Rapids.

2-2 was nothing to scoff at for Portland, but between an odd offside decision and a questionable call on a free kick leading to Houston's equalizer it's no wonder fans were left feeling it was two points dropped. Hoffman deliberates on all of the contentious moments before we move on and discuss Timbers' home match with LA this weekend.

Sounders had their own match against LA a weekend ago, and we elaborate on why it was a match no one could afford to lose. Attention then shifts to an inaugural meeting with Minnesota United, a tie near and dear to Andrew's heart.

Undefeated weeks are happy weeks on Radio Cascadia, enjoy this one with us!

Andrew, Ari and Steven all feautured in Prost Publishing's latest book, Resgurgence: How Sounders FC Roared Back to Win MLS Cup. The book chronicles Seattle's title-winning season, and also includes contributions from former Seattle mayor Greg Nickels, Rapids play by play commentator and BBC veteran Richard Fleming, ESPNFC.com and Prost Amerika writer Matt Pentz, legendary Seattle journalist Art Thiel, and a foreword written by Mr. Sounder himself, Zach Scott.
