Matt Hoffman calls in to discuss Diego Valeri's landslide win in the MLS MVP race, a first for Cascadia. The second half of Ep. 136 is devoted to our MLS Cup preview. Be sure to tune in to Sports Radio 950 KJR in Seattle from 9am-11am on Saturday morning for a special 2-hour preview show complimentary to Ep. 136.

Nov 28, 2017

Caleb Porter's surprise departure from Portland headlines the show, with group reaction and a summary of top replacement candidates following a recap of what seems to have happened between Porter and the club. We finish our Timbers segment by discussing their moves on Contract Deadline Day.

Michael McColl of AFTN joins to update us on Whitecaps' relationship with Fresno's new USL club. Vancouver freed up a massive amount of salary cap space on Contract Deadline Day, and some of the cuts hinted at possible additions coming this offseason. Others don't have an immediate explanation, like the decision to decline Nosa Igiebor's option. We touch on all the transactions and then move on to our Seattle segment.

After seven years of futility a Cascadian club finally picked up a win in Houston last Tuesday, defying almost a decade of misfortune on the biggest stage imaginable. Sounders return home from their trip to Texas up 2-0 on aggregate in the Western Conference Championship, 2017 marking the fifth consecutive year it features a Cascadian participant, as overwhelming favorites to advance to MLS Cup. We end the episode with a recap of the first leg and preview of the second.

Nov 21, 2017

RC's preview of the first leg of the Western Conference Championships! Recorded before Whitecaps' news about Fresno and Caleb Porter's bombshell in Portland, which will be covered in Ep. 135.

Nov 9, 2017

The crew recaps the second leg of our all-Cascadia Western Conference Semifinal tie between Seattle and Vancouver, and lament Portland's elimination at the hands of Houston at the same stage. Sounders are still alive, but our hopes of a derby match up in the Conference Championship in 2017 is now gone. Michael McColl of AFTN and Matt Hoffman of MLSsoccer.com feature as we begin to assess Vancouver and Portland's campaigns as well as Seattle's chances against Houston.

Nov 2, 2017

It's the RC Spooky Special, here in time for the second leg of Seattle-Vancouver! Check out our preview of both that tie and the second leg of Houston-Portland!

Oct 28, 2017

Vancouver's 5-0 win over San Jose in the Western Conference Knockout Round has left the region in prime position -- of four sides remaining in the West, the three highest seeds all belong to Cascadia. Our chances at an all-Cascadian Conference Final have never been better, and the RC crew's awfully excited about it.

We review Whitecaps' big win at BC Place before we tackle the first-ever MLS playoff meeting between Seattle and Vancouver. Whitecaps' momentum, Sounders' health and rest days dominate the discussion.

SKC's out in the Knockout Round for the third year running, bowing out at Houston. Seems like Vermes' men will be up for it when they get another playoff shot against one of our sides, so bullet dodged there. As a result, Timbers will travel to Texas to try and grab a first Cascadian win in Houston, and in the biggest of circumstances. Our preview of the Timbers-Dynamo series concludes Ep. 131.

Oct 25, 2017

For the first time in MLS history our Cascadia clubs have finished in the top three spots in the Western Conference! It's an incredible achievement for the region and gives us a great shot at seeing a Cascadian MLS Cup winner for a third year running.

Portland's big win over Vancouver on Decision Day not only won them their second Western Conference regular season crown, but the Cascadia Cup as well! We congratulate the Timbers for a gutsy derby comeback and ponder who their ideal Western Conference Semifinal opponent would be.

Our other Decision Day match up saw Seattle down Colorado 3-0 in a match that ended with each side a man down. Dempsey's red card and Lodeiro's new position are both discussed. Ari gives an update on Sounders' injury situation. The crew assesses Seattle's 2nd place finish in their title defense season.

Vancouver can't afford to dwell on two frustrating results to end the regular season, granting them the 3rd seed in the West. They play San Jose at BC Place for the second time in ten days in a do-or-die match on Wednesday night. Knockout Round away upsets are notoriously difficult to pull off, and we discuss how the hosts can avoid exactly that.

Oct 18, 2017

The penultimate weekend of the 2017 MLS campaign brought disappointment for the Vancouver Whitecaps as they failed to clinch the Western Conference crown in a home match with San Jose. However, the mood across the region as a whole is a joyous one -- all three of our clubs will make the postseason for only the second time ever in MLS play. Furthermore, it seems they're likely to finish 1-2-3 in the West!

The gang reviews all the action from the last Sunday before moving on to preview the Decision Day slate.

Is our final Cascadia derby of the regular season, Vancouver @ Portland, the most important league match ever in Cascadia? The winner (or Vancouver, in the event of a draw) will finish atop the Western Conference. Michael McColl of AFTN joins us to discuss this question and many others as we dive deep into this historically important match up.

Jeff Lageson, Prost Amerika NWSL correspondent, calls in to discuss the Thorns' title win in Orlando, and sticks around the recap the Reign's season as well.

2017 is turning into a banner year for Cascadia, and Decision Day will tell us so much about how we ultimately remember this incredibly close season in the Western Conference. Come get hyped with us as we wait for the drama to unfold.

Oct 18, 2017

The RC gang pauses from their normal Cascadian duties to examine the aftermath of the USMNT's disastrous World Cup qualifying campaign. Sunil Gulati's job, the role of MLS in CONCACAF's national teams, and fixes for pay-to-play youth soccer are all discussed in the wake of the greatest disappointment in US soccer history.

Sep 30, 2017

Tenzin Choephel and Ed Pham join the show to discuss Sounders' 3-0 win over Vancouver on Wednesday. The group then moves on to preciew a full weekend slate in Cascadia, with all three of our clubs facing tricky road tests as they battle for a top-2 finish in the Western Conference. Diego Valeri MVP talk pops up again, and we debate the importance of Seattle's tactical shift in the midweek.

Sep 27, 2017

The Vancouver Whitecaps visit the Seattle Sounders for a midweek derby on Wednesday night with 1st place in the West and the Cascadia Cup on the line. In this special derby preview edition of RC, we analyze every aspect of the match up -- tactics, rest, fixture congestion, and form. Michael McColl of AFTN joins to weigh in on the big game and report from Whitecaps camp after Andrew and Ari hold a lively debate on whether Clint Dempsey should start the match or not.

Sep 20, 2017

Ep. 126 examines the Cascadian run-in in the Western Conference, with the group picking the final positioning of the table as the regular season winds down. It's a complicated picture, but seemingly a favorable one for our clubs as at least one first round bye for Cascadia looks very attainable.

We assess the relative lack of hype around the Whitecaps and their pole position in the West, including some specific arguments mentioned on Ari's website recently. Additionally, how will Robbo handle their upcoming home match with Colorado, given that a trip to Seattle follows only days later?

A brief look at Timbers' loss in Utah opens our Portland clip before we move on to looking at what would constitute a successful final four matches of the regular season for Caleb Porter.

Sounders drew 0-0 in Dallas, and we're trying to figure out whether they're playing more like a team unbeaten in 13 matches or one winless in 4.

It's gonna come down to the wire this fall, and the home stretch is just about here. Get prepared for the most vital part of the season with RC Ep. 126.

Sep 14, 2017

Ep. 125 was recorded during and after Vancouver's 3-0 win over Minnesota United on Wednesday night. The gang's in a jovial mood as our clubs sit 1-2-3 in the West. We tackle Alexi Lalas' rant, Timbers' big win in New York City, and Jordan Morris' hamstring strain. All the latest and greatest, right here on RC.

Sep 8, 2017

The group recaps Portland's big point in Seattle and Vancouver's road win at Orlando, along with the recent USMNT disappointments in World Cup qualifying. Then it's on to weekend previews in a short, sweet episode as return from the international break! All of Cascadia's in great position in the West, come find out where they'll be next week with RC Ep. 124!

Aug 26, 2017

In our special second release of the week, Tenzin Choephel and Ed Pham join Steven Agen in previewing Timbers' side of this weekend's Portland-Seattle derby.

We begin by analyzing Portland's 2-1 win over the Colorado Rapids before jumping into Timbers lineups, tactics, top story lines and predictions in the 85th competitive edition of the I5 rivalry.

Find our Sounders-sided preview of this match in the August 26th edition of Radio Cascadia Live. That makes two full episodes previewing the region's biggest match, the way only Radio Cascadia can.

Aug 22, 2017

It wasn't just an unbeaten weekend in Cascadia, it was a perfect one. All three of our clubs took maximum points in important home fixtures, currently leaving each in a playoff berth.

Ordinarily, it'd be a good bet that such success would be the focus of this edition of Radio Cascadia. However with two derbies this week and midweek matches for everyone, we keep Ep. 122 focused on the future. This 45 minute installment primarily features previews of the Vancouver-Seattle derby on Wednesday as well as Portland's home tie with Colorado. The special set up allows us the flexibility to release again later in the week with more accurate previews of Vancouver's trip to Orlando and, of course, the Seattle-Portland derby on Sunday than we'd be able to provide before Wednesday's slate of matches.

We discuss the developing partnership between Fredy Montero and Yordy Reyna with AFTN's Michael McColl, also taking a look at how Carl Robinson will set up tactically against Sounders.

Will a day less rest than Whitecaps doom Seattle's trip north? Brian Schmetzer's lineup conundrum in this quick three match stretch is the focus of our Sounders side of Wednesday's derby.

A 2-2 draw in Commerce City left Portland with a bad taste in their mouths after their last match with the Rapids. Will Caleb Porter be able to devote enough resources to their midweek home match against them without sacrificing Seattle away?

This may well turn out to be a defining week for the 2017 season, particularly in Cascadia. Get ready for the first half of it with RC Ep. 122!

Aug 17, 2017

Two losses for our clubs and some bad injury developments from last weekend can't put a damper on our 2026 World Cup host city news, which headlines Ep. 121.

Michael McColl of AFTN talks with Steven about Vancouver's letdown at New England and how the Whitecaps will cope without Matias Laba. Their home match against high-flying Houston, winless all-time at BC Place, is an interesting proposition. Will the Whitecaps get their big homestand off to the right start?

Matt Hoffman joins the group to break down where the Timbers went wrong after 50 solid minutes in Toronto. Next up is a nationally-televised Friday night match against NY Red Bulls -- Providence Park will be rocking, but Caleb Porter's men will have to get the job done without Jake Gleeson, Liam Ridgewell, and Fanendo Adi. Can Diego Valeri, freshly apart of the elite 50/50 club, put the team on his back and carry the Timbers towards the top of the West?

Seattle broke their club record for most consecutive minutes without conceding a goal (400 minutes and counting), and our Sounders segment focuses on their recent positive run as a whole. The latest in a string of positive results has placed the Sounders in a tie for the Western Conference lead -- what are the chances they stay there?

Ep. 121 ends with a look at Forbes' analysis of estimated MLS club values. Hint: We have two in the top six.

Aug 9, 2017

Another unbeaten weekend in Cascadia leaves two of our clubs firmly in playoff positions and the third just on the edge looking in. Prost Portland editor Matt Hoffman discusses the reasons why Timbers aren't getting the national respect they deserve yet. That's followed by a preview of their match in Toronto, where a result would certainly send a message to anyone sleeping on Portland.

It's tough to tell whether it's two point dropped or a point gained as Carl Robinson continues to tinker with his ideal front four. Michael McColl of AFTN joins and give his takes on current playoff hopes, consistency, and the coming road match against New England. Who'll make the starting lineup for the Whitecaps, and will they do enough to keep pace with the Earthquakes for the last playoff spot in the West?

The group closes out Ep. 120 by analyzing Sounders' 7-match unbeaten run. Were they firing on all cylinders in Minnesota? Derlis Gonzalez isn't coming to Seattle, but that doesn't mean we don't have interesting questions to ponder as the transfer window closes. Where does Victor Rodriguez fit into this team, given Will Bruin's form? How about Lamar Neagle, for that matter?

It's another packed episode of Radio Cascadia -- tune in to hear takes on the biggest stories in the region from the likes of Michael McColl, Matt Hoffman, Ari Liljenwall, and Andrew Harvey.

Speaking of Ari and Andrew, they joined Steven Agen in writing Resurgence: How Sounders FC Roared Back to Win MLS Cup, presale available now here. Former Seattle mayor Greg Nickels, ESPNFC.com & Prost Amerika writer Matt Pentz and Seattle sports journalism legend Art Thiel all feature as well in Prost Publishing's effort to commemorate Sounders' 2016 title-winning season.

Aug 2, 2017

Four points from two matches in Texas leaves us with plenty to celebrate as we speak with Michael McColl of AFTN and Prost Portland editor Matt Hoffman about their cliubs' successes down south.

Whitecaps' 4-0 result in Frisco draws considerable attention and we rate it among their most memorable matches in MLS so far. Our preview of their match in Colorado focuses on the question of consistency, as another performance like the one against Dallas will surely earn points against the struggling Rapids.

2-2 was nothing to scoff at for Portland, but between an odd offside decision and a questionable call on a free kick leading to Houston's equalizer it's no wonder fans were left feeling it was two points dropped. Hoffman deliberates on all of the contentious moments before we move on and discuss Timbers' home match with LA this weekend.

Sounders had their own match against LA a weekend ago, and we elaborate on why it was a match no one could afford to lose. Attention then shifts to an inaugural meeting with Minnesota United, a tie near and dear to Andrew's heart.

Undefeated weeks are happy weeks on Radio Cascadia, enjoy this one with us!

Andrew, Ari and Steven all feautured in Prost Publishing's latest book, Resgurgence: How Sounders FC Roared Back to Win MLS Cup. The book chronicles Seattle's title-winning season, and also includes contributions from former Seattle mayor Greg Nickels, Rapids play by play commentator and BBC veteran Richard Fleming, ESPNFC.com and Prost Amerika writer Matt Pentz, legendary Seattle journalist Art Thiel, and a foreword written by Mr. Sounder himself, Zach Scott. Michael McColl of AFTN joins to try and make sense of Vancouver's weekend disappointment. How did the high-flying Whitecaps fall so flat against 15-man Portland? Our preview of their next match, an away game at FC Dallas, contributes to the title of this episode, with two of our clubs playing in Texas this weekend.

Portland MLSsoccer.com beat writer and Prost editor Matt Hoffman chats with us about the other side of the derby. We praise Ebobisse's big performance and rate it amongst historical performances from other young Cascadians in derby matches. Our Texas Week coverage concludes with the group desperately begging Matt to assure everyone that Cascadia's futility in Houston will finally come to an end on Saturday.

Jul 19, 2017

League play returns following the hiatus for Gold Cup Group Stage play. We preview our clubs' midweek slate, which seems a positive chance for points for all despite call ups affecting each of the three. Attention then turns to this weekend's derby as the Timbers travel to Vancouver. Michael McColl joins to talk Whitecaps as well in an action-packed Ep. 117.
